Open house success

On Saturday I turned our house into a shop and invited local friends to come and view what I make. I tempted them in with some homemade flapjack and our house was full to bursting :-)

I'm so pleased that people turned up and were keen to come and have a look at what I do. It was great to be able to discuss designs with them and offer to personalise the items so they could have just what they were looking for.

Thank you to everyone who came and made it such a success. I can recommend doing an open house event, particularly if you know quite a few people locally who don't have the internet so can't browse your shop online.

I shall definitely think about doing another one, maybe later in the year once I've got my Christmas cards made up.

  1. I have never thought about opening my own house up but that could be really cool! Did you do loads of press and promoting or was it word of mouth mostly?
I don't know if I know enough people, it could end up being just be me and the old lady down the street! ;)

    1. I just invited people I know who live locally. I think I gave out about 30 invitations, so not absolutely loads. You don't actually need that many people to make it worth while - you don't have to pay for your own table so you're not trying to cover costs like you would at a craft fair. This one was invite only to make sure I knew everyone who came, but next time I might try opening it up to friends of friends and do a bit more promoting. Depends how many people you can fit in your house!

  2. I think it is very encouraging, such events, give you confidence because you know people and have a lovely time not thinking much about covering costs and so on. Well done! I am sure the next one will be success as well!
